Meet Sgt. Ricky Robbins
As a native Charlotteann and a sergeant with over 30 years of progressive experience with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, what sets me apart are my years of law enforcement leadership, community engagement, public safety and solving homicides in hopes of providing grieving families with comfort and closure. I am a proven trusted and compassionate leader with a strong moral compass who puts the safety of all people first which is why I am running to serve as your next Mecklenburg County Sheriff.
Dedicated to cultivating strong and ethical leadership, I have served in several capacities including supervisor for Special Weapon and Tactical (SWAT), Homicide Investigations and Highway Interdiction and Traffic Safety prior to becoming a highly sought- after sergeant. Additionally, I have supervised hundreds of law enforcement officers which has allowed me to establish a culture of accountability while gaining the necessary administrative skills to lead well managed divisions. With an ongoing commitment to growth and development, I am a Certified North Carolina General Instructor, in addition to having taught Criminal Justice courses for Central Piedmont Community College (CPCC), a Domestic Violence Instructor, Standardized Field Sobriety and NC RADAR/VASCAR.
As the father of two amazing sons, they are the core reason for my commitment to ensuring that we live in a community where public safety, justice, fairness and equality are priorities. Throughout my career, I have witnessed some of the darkest moments within the history of our county while also being inspired by the strength, hope and good that our residents and those who were formerly incarcerated demonstrate daily. As your next Mecklenburg County Sheriff, I am committed to continuing my legacy and working to do my part to ensure that brighter days are ahead for Mecklenburg County.

I am committed to continuing my legacy of working collaboratively with community programs, initiatives, stakeholders and neighbors to establish alignment with the needs of all communities.
LEADERSHIP WITHIN PUBLIC SAFETY
There are several stakeholders involved in ensuring the safety of our community. Therefore, working together seamlessly is imperative as public safety and the health of our community is only maintained through the cooperation of agencies such as police, fire, emergency and other governmental agencies while finding the balance with those we serve. I am committed to being a leader who works selflessly and collaboratively with leaders across sectors to help keep our community safe.
MANAGEMENT OF THE MECKLENBURG COUNTY DETENTION CENTER
One of the primary responsibilities of a sheriff is to ensure excellent management of the Mecklenburg County Detention Center which includes the protection of both the staff and those who are currently housed. My goal is to address the mental health needs in an effort to reduce suicide and attempts, criminal activity inside of the jail, put in measures to protect staff, establish initiatives to reduce recidivism and increase staff retention.
